This is the lidded jam or preserve pot in the very popular Hornsea Pottery Contrast range.  

Hornsea Pottery discontinued the award winning Contrast range in the early 90's after a production run of nearly 20 years. The pattern is still very popular and fits in well with modern decor, but items are now becoming difficult to obtain in good condition.
