This is the round lidded butter dish in the popular Contrast design from Hornsea Pottery. Available in two versions, one with a flat lid and one with a more traditional knobbed lid, this is the knobbed lid version.

Hornsea Pottery discontinued the Contrast range in the early 90's after a production run of nearly 20 years. The pattern is still very popular, but items are now becoming more difficult to obtain in excellent condition.
